* Ribosomal protein S9 signature *
**********************************

Ribosomal protein S9 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit.
It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence
similarities [1,2], groups:

 - Eubacterial S9.
 - Algal chloroplast S9.
 - Cyanelle S9.
 - Archaebacterial S9.
 - Mammalian S16.
 - Plant S16.
 - Yeast mitochondrial ribosomal S9.

As a signature pattern, we selected a conserved region containing many charged
residues and located in the central section of these proteins.

-Consensus pattern: [GS]-G(2)-x(2)-[GSA]-[QK]-x(2)-[SA]-x(3)-[GSA]-x-[GSTAV]-
                    [KR]-[GSALVD]-[LIFV]
-Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
-Other sequence(s) detected in Swiss-Prot: NONE.
-Last update: April 2006 / Pattern revised.
