ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.13.32

Accepted Name
albendazole monooxygenase
Alternative Name(s)
albendazole monooxygenase (flavin-containing)
albendazole sulfoxidase
Reaction catalysed
albendazole + H(+) + NADPH + O2 <=> albendazole S-oxide + H2O + NADP(+)
Comment(s)
  • A microsomal flavin-containing monooxygenase.
  • A similar conversion is also carried out by some microsomal cytochrome P450 enzymes (EC 1.14.14.73).
  • It is estimated that cytochrome P450s are responsible for 70% of the activity.
